Celluloid Bainbridge Film Festival is an annual two-day event that showcases films and filmmakers with a connection to Bainbridge Island. The festival has been bringing local films to the silver screen since 1999. That means that this year marks the festival’s 20th edition! To celebrate this legacy, we’re offering up a selection of quirky favorites from two decades of Celluloid. Revisit the highlights of this quintessential island event! This year’s festival will take place Saturday and Sunday, November 17th and 18th. The retrospective is co-curated by Kathleen Thorne, the Celluloid’s founder and mastermind, and TJ Faddis, former long-time manager of the Historic Lynwood Theatre. From feature-length dramas to documentaries, comedy shorts, and experimental music videos, the films in this year’s lineup represent the creativity, the hilarity, and the heart that have defined Celluloid from the very beginning.
Celluloid kicks off Saturday night at 5pm with an Opening Night Reception at the Marketplace at Pleasant Beach. In addition to enjoying fine food and drink, we’ll be joined by a special guest: island author Jonathan Evison. The reception will be followed by a screening across the street of our featured film: “The Fundamentals of Caring,” the 2016 adaptation of Evison’s novel “The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving.” Tickets to Saturday night’s festivities are $35 and can be purchased at cbffopeningnight.brownpapertickets.com.
On Sunday, we’ll celebrate twenty years of Celluloid with a full day of screenings of past festival favorites at the Historic Lynwood Theatre. Admission is free all day Sunday. Screenings will begin at 10:30am and will run throughout the day until about 8:30pm.
