In April, AHB celebrates National Poetry Month with our annual Poetry Corners program. Poetry Corners provides local poets the opportunity to share their work with the community. We host our local poetry competition in February; our jury makes its selections in March; and the winning poems are displayed in the windows of businesses and community spaces around Bainbridge Island throughout April.
2018 saw another successful run for Poetry Corners. Big thanks to Island Treasure and Poetry Corners juror and volunteer Nancy Rekow, Poetry Corners founder and tireless volunteer Kathleen Thorne, jurors Anne Kundtz and Neil Doherty, BIMA, Custom Printing, and Bainbridge Community Broadcasting for making this year’s program possible!
Although the poems have come down from their windows, they are still viewable at the bottom of this page. This year’s poems can be also enjoyed for years to come in the Poetry Corners 2018 chapbook, available for purchase in the AHB office and at select locations around town.
We loved celebrating Poetry Month with you! Until next year, happy versifying!
Poetry Corners Window Displays
Winning selections from the poetry competition are artfully exhibited in the windows of businesses and community spaces around Bainbridge Island to be enjoyed by patrons and passers-by throughout National Poetry Month. These insightful compositions enhance our shared spaces by inviting us to pause, read, absorb, reflect, and come away inspired. See all of the 2018 Poetry Corners Window Displays at the bottom of this page!
Poets whose works were selected also shared their poetry aloud at Poetry Corners LIVE!, a celebratory evening of live readings. This event was hosted at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art on April 25th. A complete recording of the evening’s readings was produced by BCB and can be heard below:
